cheers

finished pulling them out this morning while it was relatively cool and in the shade...you don't want your potatoes
to sit in the sun and turn green..makes them kinda poision

potato patch.
before..this pic was taken on july 9 and they died back even more before i harvested them last evening and this morning

potato harvest..and Hpim0519

after....with mulch and what's left of the plants piled up and ready to be carted off to the compost pile

potato harvest..and Hpim0614

planted 5 lbs plus some from last year that were sprouted..maybe 7 lbs. tops
got about 50 pounds of yukon gold with some red pontiac volunteers

potato harvest..and Hpim0615

also got some wierd ones..that i need to go find out what did this..not sure..but' i'll be back to tell if i find anything
potato harvest..and Hpim0616
found the info..it's from unevern water uptake in the plants..
.i guess i should be surprised there isn't more of this on the tubers
we had 22 days in may of rain and very little since

red pontiac patch is still growing so they will get pulled later..i put some wire around the patch
to try and deter the deers from eating it down to the ground

yum yum..gonna have some new potatoes with butter and fresh picked parsley today..
would luv to invite you all over..but this is as close as i can get

hope it encourages someone to try potatoes next year..

rainbow heart

don't be too impressed..lol..it's taken years of trial and error to figure some things out...
and there is always something new or changing

your help would be wonderful fun to have
and how great it would be to share dinner with you
hugv

and the reason i am posting this garden stuff is so anyone looking can see that it is do-able
and maybe will be encouraged to try something new..
almost anything can be grown in pots or tubs or containers

lol..here's my latest play on growing...
this piece beside the back porch was heaped high with rose of sharon and other stuff
it was m-i-l's porch
i removed about 29 wheelbarrows of dirt and
i don't know how many river rocks from here..then painted the foundation and then
bricked it and hubby dug these plastic barrels out of the barn..they had been used to water
horses way back...
then i filled them with dirt and planted cucumbers in them..
and finished it of with bird netting for them to climb on (after this pic was taken).....i'll post a pic as they grow..
potato harvest..and Hpim0520

around the front of this porch we dug out tons of weeds..m-i-l wouldn't let us weed her flower beds
because she thought we would loose all the bulbs..as a result the thing was nothing but weeds
so a little bit of plastic lattice and it is a tomatoe garden i'll get an updated pic tomorrow
this pic was june 5 right as the plants were put in
potato harvest..and Hpim0411

oh no..soma is going to notice the containers a blue.. affraid .... lol!

adding pics from this morning 7-17
some bush cukes and 3 brussel sprouts and in front of tomatoes
some swiss chard..and another place where neither carrots or beets would grow
potato harvest..and Hpim0617

had fish wrapped in swiss chard with the parsleyed potatoes yesterday..yum

more cukes..hubby has to have several crocks of crock pickles going so we have
cukes planted everywhere..lol
you can see the netting in this pic...i tied it to the awning
potato harvest..and Hpim0618

see you can grow food in all kinds of places..try it
sunny

hehehe

I noticed the Horse tank reference and thought they musta been the tanks you poured between back in the day to oxygenate the water. ! ( i have a memory like an elephant for some things I tell ya Otter LOL)

Are they 50 Gal drums ?

I love seeing whats growing on in your yard rainbow heart

I don't recall reading if you do compost teas Otter? After so much research over a long while I finally hit the jackpot of DIY info that should work like a charm.

psst have to stop typing on this clunky keyboard asap...as the neighbour is restless in bed 6ft away lol!
