I spoke to k.t. today and she wanted me to issue an alert about counterfeit money the banks are issuing.
In her hometown in Eustis, Florida she witnessed 2 cases of this in the last several weeks.
While at the tax office, she was told by a clerk that a man came in an hour earlier to pay his $2000 taxes in cash.
They marked the bills and told him that $1000 of his money was counterfeit. He claimed he just left the bank down the street.
He went back to his bank and was told that they cannot do anything once he leaves the teller window.
Also, k.t. was at the grocery store when a lady in front of her gave the clerk a $50 bill. They marked it and said it was counterfeit.
The lady said she withdrew the cash from her bank just a few hours earlier.
Both these poor people are out of luck now.
She said to get one of those $2 counterfeit markers and check your money while you are standing at the window with the teller. She said even if you walk away to another part of the bank to check it, they will not honor your request for the good money.
k.t. said one bank was Wachovia and the other bank was Bank of America and she thinks that most banks might be doing this by now.
She said in the past, the banks checked for counterfeit and now they don't.
Anybody wonder why?
This is the take down.
