another important topic....eating directly from the forest......scavaging the nature around you to see what is edible........this also gives you control of your own food suply.......depending on the season or climate there are meny thing edible you can find in the forest.......but it is very inportant that you learn how to identify what is in your aera.........
you can identify greens, berries, mushrooms, flowers, mosses,nuts....and for instance pine needel tea is a great immune booster.......and slippery elm inner bark is a supurb antidot for food poisoning and you can make a cast with it if you need to set a broken bone........also you can use tree sap if you get a large wond and donot have stiches .....it´s antibacterial and it will seal the wond to keep out moisture and infection......while holding the wond together.......
the best thing to do is get an identification book to see what is around you.........but you will be able to find food and medicine in nature......its also important to dry some of these foods and medicines you find so you have a stock for the winter...........

great ideas here, zuni...
a few days ago: picture this *** i was making coffee at sunrise at Pine Flat... sis went for water and to find some more wood to add to the fire, she was gone for some time *** then i spotted her coming up the hill. she had a big oak branch, a jug of water and in her hat, some fresh picked greens *** she called it miner's lettuce - it grows low to the ground in shady damp spots, it has a bright green round leaf with a hint of a flower where the stem meets the leaf - she had picked handfuls *** she rinsed them and put them in our bowls, drizzled some seasoned rice vinegar and olive oil on them and added a pinch of sea salt *** at that moment, i had never tasted anything better in my life! the rush i got from the chlorophyll was amazing and our tongues turned bright green! *** i want to find out the botanical name.... *** ok, it's "Montia perfoliata"

great story winehippy.......i think the reason you got such a rush is because fresh harvested wild baby greens are full of chi.......and chlorophyll is nearly identicle to our blood......the only difference is our blood is iron atom and chlorophyll has magnesium.....so it regenerates our cells and boost our immune system.........wow........i´m glad you were able to feel the chi........if you can it´s good to eat wild greens every day........

Thanks for all the tips and vids zuni! This is good stuff especially the hard cider vid. That's just how they do it in prison (don't ask )
I like this Green Deane guy too, he seems kinda goofy and a bit eccentric, but that's just what I'm looking for in a survival expert.;)
So I gathered from the hulu ad thread that most people here don't watch tv. I try not to, but I live w/ two roommates who are really good guys, but watch a ton of mind numbing 'reality' shows. They usually blame it on their girlfriends, but I know they love that awful crap. Anyway my point is that there are actually some good shows on tv allbeit few and far between. I try to get them to watch more stuff w/ more (or any) useful information when I can, like Survivorman.
It's a show made by just this one guy alone (Les Stroud) who strands himself in remote locations w/o supplies for seven days and films it entirely by himself. He seems like a really cool guy and pretty legit imho.
Here's a good episode that starts w/ Les 'crashing' his mtn. bike in the southern utah canyonlands (very cool place, I've hiked through the same area myself).
