AP’s Seth Borenstein is running a story titled “49 states dusted with snow; Hawaii’s the holdout“. As shown in the map below, every state in the Continental US has snow someplace. As pointed out in the article, this is a rare occurrence:

Knowing only a bit about the cold and hot places, I would have thought Los Angeles, California would be without snow as would be Florida and what about the southern states, aren't they supposed to be warm? Not sure where I am.

Well LA is located on the bottom far left. The city itself does not have snow. Only part of the state of california that it is in. Florida is on the bottom right. Only the top part of the state has some snow. Same goes for the other southern states, only parts of them have snow. Most of these southern states do no t normally get snow, especially all at the same time.

Actually even on top of a mountain in Hawaii there is currently snow so all 50 states are reporting at least some snow. Very strange indeed. Is it a result of the gulf oilspill screwing up the earth's weather currents, or is it more strangeness as we approach 2012?
