Black Elk
Holy Man of the Oglala Sioux, 1863-1950

"The first peace, which is the most important,
is that which comes within the souls of people when they realize
their relationship, their oneness with the universe and all its powers,
and when they realize that at the center of the universe dwells the Great Spirit,
and that this center is really everywhere,
it is within each of us."

A topic dear to my heart. clap

This is one of my all time favorites that touches my soul:

Mountain Dreamer's Poem

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your hearts longing.

It doesn't interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking a fool for love, for your dreams, for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn't interest me what planets are square in your moon.
I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow,
if you have been opened by life's betrayals or have become shriveled and closed down from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving, to hide it, fade it, or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own; if you can dance with wildness and let ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, be realistic, or to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn't interest me if the story you are telling me is true.
I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true yourself;
if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul. I want to know if you can be faithful and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see beauty even when it is not pretty every day, and if you can source your life on the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the moon in God’s presence.

It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up after a night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done for the children.

It doesn't interest me who you know, or how you came here.
I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back.

It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away.
I want to know if you can be alone with yourself, and if you truly like the company you keep in empty moments.

A beautiful thread woven into our coat of many colors, by loving hands and hearts, a gracious place for lost souls to stumble, while learning the inward charts

places of dark surround each soul while seeking the path of light, obstacles of learning clutter the path as we struggle to do this right,

A light here, a candle there, light that abounds all around, I seek and I sought, over and over I tried, but realized it was always inside.

Your thread here winehippie is great. I was touched by this thread as I came upon it because many years ago while meditating I was shown the great Black Elk, and I was also informed of his spiritual colors at the same time, which were black red and white, then I was informed that those are also my colors and that Black Elk is a kindred spirit of mine.

I sought more information, and was told that Black Elk is one of my "standing people", that stands with me from his spiritual home and that we all have "standing people" that are with us in the spirit realm and are our spiritual backup so to speak.

Thank you for this thread sister.

Mitakuye Oyasin

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As a people, the Tribe of Man,
we must all learn to work together.
We must stop fighting and pointing fingers.
We must not take more than we need.
War serves no purpose other than to destroy.
There comes a time when one must stop and think.
Questions asked of self are good.
Each of us has a purpose and we are all connected.
We are all related...like it or not...
And remember, what you do to another...
you do to yourself.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, the next time you begin to speak or act in anger,
STOP and think.
Before you pick up a stone to throw,
STOP and think.

flower Gabe
i like the wording of that....standing people...much better than spirit guides...

it makes you think of them as people to listen to and not guides that need to be obeyed..
yep nice

years ago when i started to see my "standing people" i mistook them as being there for others
and when i would describe a feature of them to the person i was reading sometimes that person would just look blank
lol!
it took a while to realize just how many of them were with ME...

yep standing people is just perfect
thank you so much for the new label
cheers smiley-face-sun-clou

It is my pleasure Sky, as when I first heard the term it reminded me of an Indian thing, which cannot be a bad thing.
