This is just a personal observation and I welcome your viewpoint on this.
Rail Men or Real Men [center]
For me the distinction between the two is this. 'Rail Men' are the ones stuck on the tracks
of what society expects of them to be, to keep in line with the 'norm' of masculine behaviour.
This masculine behaviour has been instilled, or indoctrinated, in us from the moment we
were born. That is to say, in order to feel part of society, we have been designated certain
roles to play, traits to display, which emotions to show, when to show them and how to show them.
If you could imagine a modern day young man, suddenly transported back 50 years, he wouldn't
last five minutes before being beaten up, ridiculed and finally arrested for 'offending public decency',
a law which was in force then. Simply because he would not fit in with the 'norm' by wearing make-up,
dyeing his hair, wearing ear-rings and so on, normal by todays standard.
Yet biologically, they are the same men. The only thing that has changed is the rules of indoctrination.
Some people may argue that it is freedom of expression.,I'm sorry, but I would have to disagree.
They are simply following the modern day tracks laid down for them by the same powers that have
always dictated how society should 'act'.
The reason is to create confusion and seperation,( division, polarity, duality.,call it what you want.).
The older generation of the 1940's/50's were a more male chauvanistic orientated generation,
designed to create polarisation of the sexes and reinforce a male hierachy depending upon how tough
you were. The tougher you were, the more 'manly' you were.
The modern generation on the other hand face a different dilemma.
They are absolutely bombarded with distractions such as fashions, games, material 'must haves',
mind controlling music and an ambiguous attitude of sexuality.
When a child reaches puberty, it's sexuality is not fully ascertained until the late teens and beyond, the
harmones are still not quite 'settled'.
That young teenagers rebel has been a natural phenomenon throughout the centuries, but lacking in the
modern era, is guidance. That lack of guidance is mistakenly seen as freedom, and has been replaced by
it's insidious cousin., indoctrination.
This has not gone unnoticed by the ones that set the 'norms' we adhere to, thus creating more polarity
between the generations and a lack of understanding and respect for each other.
The one thing they have in common is that both generations are stuck on the tracks of indoctrination.
Brave people like Quentin Crisp and Oscar Wilde, were ostracised, beaten, ridiculed and imprisoned,
simply because they refused to follow the norm and openly declared their sexuality. Both highly gifted individuals,
but that didn't matter to society.
How many thousands didn't have their courage, because of the fear of public ridicule.
The powers that be don't need prison warders for this prison planet.., people are their own warders and prisoners
as long as they stay on this track.
Real Men are those that seek to know themselves, men that are true to their hearts., not society.
Simple as that!
Tom.
