soil solarization vs chemicals

one of the best things i have ever tried is solariztion of the soil..
it works for a lot of things and is not hard to do

you till or break up the clods of dirt and then you wet it completely and then
you put a heavy piece of clear plastic down in the spring and let it do the work
basically you are sterilizing dirt...
i have also used black plastic and it works too..you may have to figure out how long
and maybe a nice soil thermometer would be useful here
knowing the temp things were killed off at

it will kill most weed seeds that are not too deep and a lot of the fungus and other nasties
