- At 04:18 UTC on 10 October, 2011 a eruption did start somewhere close to the El Hierro volcano Island (but inside El Hierro volcano system). So far nothing has been seen to this eruption, so location is uncertain at the moment. At the moment this eruption has only been confirmed by harmonic tremors seen on seismometers on El Hierro island.
From what I can tell, based on the harmonic tremor plots. It seems that the eruption has been growing in size since it started well over 12 hours ago. This suggests that the eruption is growing in size. That also brings up the issue that new fissures might open, both into deeper ocean and on shallower depth and even on land without any warning at all.

Lack of earthquakes does not mean that magma is not the move and has not reached the surface already. But this however suggests that magma now has a free flow upwards to the surface since sometimes yesterday, when the earthquake activity did drop suddenly from ~100 earthquakes to ~30 earthquakes over the day.
I am going to update this blog post as more is known about the eruption in El Hierro.
The confirmation via tremor plots of this eruption should be taken seriously. This man is the resource for Icelandic activity, and his observations should be taken to heart. Please seek out his blog and arm yourself with knowledge. Keep your head UP!!

| Spread the word about this guy's blog. All we can do is inform as many as possible that the 'sooner or later' eruption will be... sooner. | |

| Subject: UPDATE: Independent Confirmation via "Global Disaster Watch" blog & Gov't Tue Oct 11, 2011 6:26 am | |
| Following is from http://globaldisasterwatch.blogspot.com/2011/10/tuesday-october-11-2011.html - Quote :
- Subsea Volcanic Eruption Underway Near El Hierro (The Canary Islands) - A submarine volcanic eruption is taking place approximately 5 kilometres (about 900 metres ) off the southern coast of El Hierro, five kilometres south of La Restinga. The eruption started around 11:00am Monday. The eruption is taking place because ‘the seismic movement of 4.3 which occurred on Saturday afternoon caused a fissure, from where the energy is being released’. Scientists remain unclear if the emissions are gas or lava.
A meeting of PEVOLCA – Actualidad Volcánica de Canarias, comprising representatives of Instituto Geografico Nacional (IGN) and The Canary Islands Government, took place on the Spanish Island. In a statement issued shortly before 4 p.m. local time, the IGN stated “…although there is no certainty that at the moment it is producing an underwater volcanic eruption, since the last morning there has been a release of fluids and volcanic gas on the southern coast of the island. Scientists from IGN have reported to the direction of the Plan all the indicators that have been analyzed to point towards the possibility of the beginning of an eruptive process that has changed the type of waves that have registered on seismographs in the last hours, implying the beginning of emission of gases or lava…The helicopter of the emergency and rescue of the Government of the Canary Islands group has done reconnaissance flights during the morning without exit of volcanic material to the surface ... PEVOLCA encourages people to perform their usual tasks normally and to remain attentive to any unusual activity."
For the very latest on anything and everything 'doom and gloom', The Global Disaster Watch is enlightening... and depressing.

- Data Update 18/10 – 12:12 UTC: As we have mentioned before, harmonic tremors decreased a lot the last 12 hours probably the reason why the Sea stain diminished and the Jacuzzi nozzles stopped working. However, this does not mean that everything came to a stop. Seismic activity has not stopped yet and since midnight UTC we noticed 3 earthquakes measuring almost all above 2. These are the values so far : 2.3, 2.0, 2.2, 1.6 and 2.1. We have had however no more shallow earthquakes (hypocenter at less than 5 km from the surface) since October 9, when we think that the eruption started.
