Thank you for sending me a speeding fine today.

Above office is charging me $153.00 for exceeding the speeding limit by less than 10 kmh.

Notice says permitted speed is 100 km, Alleged speed 105 km/h and detected speed 108 km/h.

Well hells, bells and little friggin fishes, it was on the western ring road, southbound. Have you ever been on the friggin western ring road and watched the morons fly by you, while beeping me, at friggin 150....................

DON'T PAY IT BIGGS.... Speeding tickets are just a way to make money for the state. THERE IS NO ACTUAL LAW FOR SPEEDING, IT'S JUST A STATUTE.

The key thing to do is not acknowledge the ticket by responding to it.

When you get a reminder to pay, say to them that "I do not contract with you in any way" These are the key words. Do not say you want to appeal the ticket, because this binds you into their contract and you will need to pay it.

Next thing to do is to ask them if they have tested their camera and operating equipment the day of the ticket. Chances are it won't have because this is only done occasionally.

If the equipment was not tested that day of your ticket....BINGO you don't have to pay the ticket because they can't be sure it was accurate on the day, so there's no contest.

I'll get back to you with the appropriate links later on, just a lil busy right now.

Ok, done some more research... Now what you have to understand is that the law in England could now be somewhat different to Oz, but basically the same principle seeing as your laws were from when Oz was in the Commonwealth and you got all your rulings from us way back then.

So, the upshot is I've been looking at a site called TPUC (www.tpuc.co.uk) which had it's inception from a guy called John Harris who looked into our laws in general.

When John was asked to pay ordinary tax from his wages, tax for TV licenses, all manner of local taxes, credit cards etc found that he wasn't 'obliged' to pay for them as there was no law written that says you have to pay them. Laws in England were written and called the Magna Carta. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magna_Carta in the 1200's. Anything after that is a Statute or an Act (both the same thing)

Therefore, there is no law put in place in 1200's as cars were not invented then.

Any country can only "request" money from you, they can't take it by law (because there isn't 1)

Have a look around the Forum site and see if there's anything on there that can make it a bit clearer.

I understand, thanks a lot for that information Skywatcher. I tell you what, they can be brutal those lot.

On the said ring road cars are passing me doing way more and I had to put slight pressure on the acceralator pedal to veer over to exit ramp; and what happens they get you for that amount over.

I read on a site that they make 1 billion a year through fines down here. Wonder what they do with that money.

Like I said its a money making exercise and they do make tons each year, that's why they do it!

Over here you are allowed 10% over the limit before tickets are issued and even then, you need to be doing that speed or more for a 1/5th of a mile. Can't see you travelling that far to come off a ramp.

They'll bully you and frighten you with letters, but stick to your guns and don't be intimidated by it.
