Subject: "going into the weekend" RANT Fri Apr 01, 2011 1:15 pm
so .... here i am on a friday afternoon, am listening in on a call from sis to a bank - she closed an account five months ago ... she gets a statement in the mail says she owes $17+ in monthly fees for an account which has carried a balance of 15 cents since she supposedly closed it ... she did not deposit the 15 cents at any time and the bank does not know where it came from ... but the first customer service rep said 1) nothing he can do about it 2) sis will have to go to bank in person to sort it out ... so she asked for his supervisor .... anybody wanna venture a guess as to how long sis was on hold, waiting? SOP, more than 20 minutes ... finally, a supervisor came on, looked at the inactive account, and said she would take care of it - except for the fact that the lady 5 months ago said it was taken care of also, this is a successful conclusion for sis ... but how many ppl would get angry and hang up? how many would hang up after waiting 20 minutes? how many would say screw it, here is the $17 now close the damn account? now the story above is no big deal ... but it IS symptomatic of corporate greed vs. the little guy and when you think about the same principle magnified by 100 at the upper echelons ... it is staggering, really *** i think this weekend i will take a respite from news, alternative and all others ... i am so tired of trying to understand the manipulations of this world, what good will it do if i ever do understand? i think perhaps playing with papier mache and reading and being outside in the sun is in order for the next couple of days .... *** sigh

I think that is a very good idea hippie. BTW when I get real angry about something similar in the corporate world if I get hung up on I just call back. I refuse to let someone like the corporations kick me around anymore. I know what its like to be kicked around so anything they do over the phone is not going to worry me.

I dont like the sun myself Gio, I know I am weird. I like thunder, lightning, lots of rain and wind, darkness and clouds. Now because I come from oz I dont think we get that much, so I would love to live in Seattle where I heard there is always lots of rain.
Only one thing wrong with that scenario, I am not a US citizen, so I would have to leave again.

Hippie, that's a disgraceful way for a bank to behave. After a couple of minutes hanging on, I'd have hung up and written them a letter stating that you're refusing to pay the $17 and if they wanted to contact me and talk about it, here's my number. When they call you back, YOU keep them waiting 30 minutes instead. Still don't pay the $17 dollars as this is a bank error and you have already informed them previously. Their loss, not yours.

just love-ly, thank you ... in the 80's, when my two sisters and i "took over" an art building at a local college for a few semesters, i kept my walkman in my pocket and andreas in my ears .... the perfect meditation, creation music .... and the art we created at the time was inspired ... really affects mood nicely, doesn't it?

The $17. seventeen bucks was only for 2 months, the fees would have been more like $45. fourty five bucks up to that point, and that's only because I happened to open the stupid statement which I thought was just another ad from a bank that had my address because I USED to be a client. If I just ignored it, it would have gotten bigger and BIGGER and no, I wouldn't be able to just tell them to BITE ME because they have bank type connections and they may be able to take money from me out of my other account.
I have had them just TAKE my money from me before and at the worst possible moment. You read that right, they wiped out the little bank account which was the only money 2 old ladies had to live on. That was a long time ago but it was a valuable lesson none the less. Sis
