Subject: Toowoomba Flood 2011.01.10 (Queensland Australia) Tue Jan 11, 2011 2:25 am
The following youtube was posted by "whitelightbringer" (interesting name don't you think...) and depicts the speed at which a flash flood can become overwhelming and is yet another display of natures power.
The video was featured in the Sydney Morning Herald.
Check out the 4x4 driver locking his front hubs before making a getaway, as you can see not very many cars made it. One of the voices says he is letting air out, that is obviously not correct. The driver looked to me like he knew what he was about - I am not sure I would have worried about the umbrella though :)

be interesting when it peaks in brisbane in conjunction withe the king tide tomorrow night.
I'm getting a weird vibe off this. Not so much what has happened so far in the rural areas, but something about when it hits brisbane.

This is breaking news all over the TV at the moment.
An athlete (can't remember her name) was on that 7pm Project show and for the last 4 days was in Noosa QLD who described the rain like it was almost unnatural, pelting down consistently with these abnormal huge drops. Crazy stuff.

The snakes always go up to higher ground in the big wet or floods. Friends of ours up in Qld said some snakes were found in houses. Their getting flooded out of their homes, the snakes that is.

The weather bureau says it is likely a cyclone will form off the coast of north Queensland by about midnight (AEST).
A low pressure system is currently 650 kilometres north-east of Townsville and is tracking away from the coast of Queensland.
The weather bureau in Townsville says it is not expected to come closer to the coast, but they will continue to monitor the system.
Bureau spokesman Doug Fraser says it is likely to stir up strong winds and seas but not cross the coast.
"The expectation is it is fairly likely to develop into a cyclone but move away from the coastline and very unlikely to see any direct affect on the Queensland coast," he said
