it's tough for me to find the words ...
12 years of catholic school indoctrinates a person pretty well ...
but i knew something was awry when i had to make up some sins
for confession in 2nd grade ... nothing about the vatican would surprise
me: not lying / pedophilia / torture / theft / murder / suppression, hoarding
of information and truth - you know, the mafia started in sicily for some
very good reasons, it only got screwed up when greed for money and power
took over - but the church didn't even START out for good reasons, it
was brainwashing fodder from the git go
***
as a child in catholic school, i was also witness to the fuss made when some
higher up muckety-muck was a guest - the nuns were all fluttery, frantic and it
was impressed upon us that this person deserved respect and our best behavior ...
and then the big moment would come, and he was just a person and i didn't
sense anything special about him, well, except for his robes, which i thought were
a bit ostentqtious, but it was like the nuns and some of the students were
enraptured or adoring or something ... the point is, if those people were so
affected by monsignor whoever, i can only imagine what an "audience" with
the pope would do to them ... they KISS his ring and stuff - how whacked is that?
