| well between life and the rain we have had the onions out in the garden patch never got finished being mulched sigh ..so this is what those poor things loooked like onions like hot and dry so you can hear them yelling for help as they were drowning out in those wet weeds but i finally got all the weeds pulled..now with our division of labor hubby has to do the mulch part..and soon too a sorrier batch of onions i haven't seen for a long time..makes my close to the house raised boxes look like a winner already sooooo what to do with all those weeds i pulled out ah - ha.. using the lemons to lemonaid routine..you make lazy man's compost.. that's where you just put it in a pile and just keep putting stuff on top...i had hubby make these holding bins for me and i do one a year..with weeds and coffee grinds and veggie scraps and shreeded paper and some dirt... just one important note here..never ever put weeds already in seed in your compost pile..cause you will just be plantin them later here's the whole thing..you can see last years is already growing sunflowers..hahahahah the plastic is covering a nice pile of dirt for potting - it's covered so as to solarize it and keep the weeds out and no gardening isn't neat and tidy

| ah yes..yet another mistake bringing home something you saw growing along the road..ohh boy this is mullen and it is a beautiful plant..with tons of folk lore and i finally got a baby one transplanted two years ago ah i only had one..but from one comes many...beautiful or not..i have pulled them all out but these few it's a biennial so it took till the second year to bloom..a huge 6 foot plus flower stalk with little yellow flowers ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh it was love-o-lee.. BUT and there is always a but.. (or a butt head) and it has seeds that are the tinest things i have ever beheld.. and they blew everywhere and i have been plulling them out of places i just can't believe these few are on what used to be a stair way on my hill of dirt i will let them flower but cut that stalk before it forms seeds | |

| yep there's more the herb that didn't stop growing..hahahah a friend (supposed friend) said hey do you want some lovage.. i said what is it.. she said it's an herb substiture for celery i said how big does it get.. she says..about 24 to 30 inches so sure..i'll try to grow anything supposted to be an herb..right... it was in my herb garden and it did get to be about 36 inches so when we turned the herb garden into a veggie kitchen garden i moved it out to the mailbox group... i should have composted it... the thing is now 7 feet plus and in flower.. well untill i go pull it out in a couple of minutes, that is the only true part is it does smell like celery of course i have tons of mistakes..but that's all i'm telling on myself for now | |

| Skymzster, Been busy and all and this is the first time I've had to look over your garden pics which I greatly appreciate for something more grand than gardens themselves. I regard the Cyclical aspect of your gardening the greatest lesson anyone can learn. The cycles occur and all is alright. | |

| Hi there-- question for you-- I work in a flower shop and we have lots of waste from the flowers; stems, leaves, blooms etc. There is plenty of wooded area outside. Whats the easiest way to compost all this material? | |

| wel i don't know about easiest..and i don't know if they are treated with anything or not.. if they are treated ..i would just put them in the trash and i don't know if you have zoning about it..i would check on the zoning first easiest in which way..where you do nothing.. check out my pic..i have three 4' x 4' sections seperated and surrounded on three sides by woven wire and i just layer it as i get it..now and then i toss some dirt on top to keep it from blowiing..and whatever water it gets comes in the form of rain mostly i just let it compress itself... each year i start a different one and take the composted black gold from the oldest one back into the garden...ususally in the spring.. big heavy stuff like branches go over the hill if you want to make compost fast you need to add water routinely and turn it so it breaks down faster..there is an art to good compost if you are turning it.. wheather in one of those barrel thingies or by hand you should proably also be adding some thing that breaks down the the plants faster...maybe a little chicken manure or lime..but you need to know what you are doing for figuring out the amounts another thing would be to maybe just offer it and have them take it off site for their compost..just a thought i hope that helps... | |

I love the transition in your gardening pics! From freaking snow to green in abundance, the cycles! That weed will make great compost LMAO | |

| soma like i said somewhere up there..lazy mans compost method... it works for me... basically you need air and water...if i just pile them on top of each other and toss some dirt on now and then..it just rots.. what i have noticed is no matter how much stuff i do at one time..i have never had a compost smell and ususally within a few days the pile is much shorter... the woven wire fence keeps it from going everywhere i don't put leaves in it cause i mulch them with the mower and leave them on the grass.. and if the grass is really thick i either run over it twice or if i am lucky and we have hot days and it dries like straw.. i will rake that and use it for mulch around my plants..but only if it's dry... rotting grass is the worst.. i think like everything you have to take the main idea and adapt it to your situation now as far as the transition goes..yeah.. it's absolutely wonderous... and it will change from day to day.. i get absolute joy just looking at it most days.. those other days are when i am working my ass off to keep it nice to look at... i don't think i could stay very long anywhere without the seasons.. | |
