| i have read several articles this morning regarding WalMart's foray into organic, locally grown produce - to compete with Whole Foods.... *** i hate WalMart; i have shopped at Whole Foods but it is too expensive for what you get - gimme a Trader Joe's any day - but that's not the point *** i am suspicious - that WalMart will contract for foods from growers within 100 miles - but are those growers cooperating by using GM seeds? and will customers buy food there, assuming it is "good stuff" at a cheaper price, not realizing that the emphasis will be on corporate profits and not health? is this simply a ploy to put Whole Foods (and smaller organic outlets) out of business? is this flurry of articles, most of which claim that WalMart natural foods tasted better than Whole Foods, simply propaganda, getting the consumer ready for the take-over? *** my brain hurts..... | |

| It's happening here too. Macro was a small organic chain that got bought out by one of the giant supermarkets. In the end I found a great organic fruit and veg stall outside a health food shop, cheaper and fresher.
Hippie you have every right to question the motives behind mega-corporations like Walmart. Smoke a splif if the grey matter is hurting.

| Great post hippy. I too would love to buy good wholesome food and I too have shopped at whole foods before, but it is just to expensive for my budget as well. I also question any big corporation about everything. I just bought some eggs 2 days ago from wal mart, and on the package it claimed the eggs were "free range eggs"? Eggs that were not coming from caged birds, like the corporations cage all their animals? How would I know if this is true? How can I check it out for myself? The package also claimed the food given to the chickens had no meat in it, you know like grinding up other animals parts and placing the part they can't sell to humans in other animal/birds foods? I too get head pain if I spend to much energy thinking about all this , But I do try to buy the right things as I go along, but it is not easy when we live in a world where lying is so dominant by all governments and corporations? Who can we trust??? My answer......God, or there ain't no hope for me anyway.....LOL. I do think that a good short prayer before eating these days is very much in order considering the poisons that dominant our culture today. | |

Amen Not quite my prayer Gabes but I do believe in the power of thought ;) Its actually my Grandmothers prayer before a meal which is no doubt a well known prayer, in saying that though I do enjoy the process of appreciating and injecting the idea of a bit of thought injection into the eating process ! Appreciation of the meal I think can at times negate some neg energys !

| thanks for your input, friends.... seems we are in alignment on this.... *** last night, i cooked my first meal for the american legion post members - i had to be flexible because there were many factors in this simple task : people here are used to all the nasty stuff, like i-can't-believe-it's-not-butter and canned vegetables and instant mashed potatoes and fried foods, etc.......... without judging or criticizing, my goal was to slip in healthier stuff without them noticing... another factor was food portions while at the same time making a profit for the post (some of the vets have said in the past that there was not on the plate for their $6 cost, and i agree) *** but this is the point, as it relates to your comments above.... i have seen the movie and read the book it was based upon, "Like Water for Chocolate"... the whole concept of preparing food to feed the ones you love, of nurturing and caring - to me, it is a magical and alchemical process - so yesterday, if you had been listening at the kitchen door while i was preparing, you would have heard me talking to the food as i chopped, grated, peeled.... telling it how beautiful it was, how delicious it was gonna be, how much people would appreciate it, how grateful i was to be performing this service... *** it was an amazing evening in many ways, the food had an effect on my friends i cannot put into words.... but here is a portion of an email which was in my email this morning:
"I was thinking how wonderful it was to be at the Post yesterday, and how different the vibes were from when R***/P***** are fixing dinner...so different. Kind of reminds me of the book/movie Chocolat and Water for Chocolate...this is a growing time for all of us. Everything is just falling into place, the negative people (like J*** *******) are somehow not coming anymore, and the post is being filled with love and laughter...so nice to see it." *** i cannot help but think that this is the reason i am here, at this time *** and a wonderful fantasy would be to sit with all of you around a big table, sharing and eating delicious bits.....

| gabe, you don't have to show yerself, just script, narrate and illustrate - with photos, art, or movie clips, animation? most comps come with simple vid software, come on, you can do it..... shoot, i could do it! by narrating your posts here! and using art/music as a backdrop... if i could do it, then you could! | |

| I will give it some thought hippy, but I am not real good at using this computer. If I look into it and think I can accomplish the technical stuff, I may do it, but I do not know how much time it might take???
I will investigate the suggestion hip sister. I am not sure how to even start? But I will trust my Spirit to lead me if I am to do it.
