Holodomor

Everyone has heard of the holocaust, but how many in the western world have heard of the holodomor???

Well I certainly hadn't. This is very disturbing and some may not want to watch the vids on you-tube as they are graphic and subject matter is a little gruesome.

Basically the Communist Russians took over the Ukraine and demanded all of the grain to be handed over to the state and the farmers and other Ukrainians were left to starve to death. It was illegal to hide any of the grain for personal consumption and people were hired to tattle tail on neighbours. They watch to see if there was smoke coming out of chimneys to indicate that they were cooking something. Groups came into the peoples' houses and searched everywhere for a hidden bag of grain and used rods to poke the ground looking for buried sacks.

Estimates as high as 16 million people starved to death between the three holodomors.

i studied in school was a whitewash version, i realized
that fact sometime in high school

there is a big difference now, though which captured my
attention.... back then, when learning of a tragedy, i would
wonder how could "they" do that and how could "they" let
that happen....
this morning, as i watched part 1 of Holdomar, i wondered how "we" could
do that to each other, chew off our own legs

We in Canada weren't taught about this either.

The area in Ukraine is considered some of the best farm land in the world. Similar to Illinois/Iowa. I can't imagine the horror of this. The one lady interviewed said that when Hitler invaded and they were sent to death camps that this was actually better because they were given some food and even once a week got margerine!

The interviewed folks were asked which was worse .... War or the Holodomor.....they all said that war was not nearly as bad!!!
