I need help with video clips

I forgot how to download my new dvd that I copied from my camcorder to my computer.

I will need to do that before I put it up on youtube, right? Sorry for the dumb questions. .
I've spent hours trying to figure it out and need help!!
I've read the instructions on the web and am even more confused now. I don't know how to copy or download this DVD on my laptop.

When I put the dvd in my computer, it shows as DVD RW Drive (E) Video Recording and will play on Windows Media Player.
I have a lot of programs on my computer, but don't which one to use.

I need step by step directions on what to do. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

When I put the dvd in and then click computer, on the E drive it says:

Files currently on the disc:

Video_RM file folder
and
Video_TS file folder

Linda you need to convert your dvd file into a compressed format for youtube. AVI files are very popular to upload to youtube.

I was doing so well until I exited the program like it said to do and it flashed FAILED!!

So, I will go to plan B.....and just let somebody else do it for me later today.
Gawd, I am such a computer dunce....simple for most, but impossible for me. Oh well...thanks a million anyway.
