Dearest brother, I feel the pain of what you must be going through as I cared for my sweet mother who suffered with Alzheimer's.
In 2000, she could no longer recognize what to do with a spoon when eating or do normal everyday things. I was so desperate to keep her at home so that we could care for her ourselves.
I researched and luckily found a drug called Memantine from Europe that had great success for many years but was not available in this country.
This drug helps with cognition, mood, behavior, and the ability to perform daily activities. Her doctors never heard of it and did not approve of me ordering it from overseas, but I was going to do whatever I could for my mom.

I can only speak from my own experience, but within 2 weeks my mother was no longer as confused, was able to use a spoon again and could even dress herself.
I felt that it was a miracle drug and recommended it to those who might benefit from it.
The FDA finally approved the drug in 2003 and changed the name to Namenda.
Even if you are not able to try a new drug for whatever reason, just know that your love and devotion is enough to help her through this crisis.
Her spirit can feel all your love.

I knew my dear mom would never recover, but I wanted to try and make the best of her last years until the Lord called her back home in 2005. All drugs will only be effective for a short while and then we must accept what is to come.

I researched everything that I could about the disease and tried to educate the rest of the family on what to expect at the different stages. That is all we can do. Prepare ourselves and lovingly comfort our loved ones through the painful times.

I am praying for your sweet mother, Dee. Know that I am sending loving thoughts and comfort to her and also to YOU dear brother. She is very lucky to have you as her son.

Linda has exellent advice as I know it worked for my mother too. She survived quite well after a "bout" with dementia. Oh it was a sad time and once they "changed" her meds, she did well for the next five or so years.

I no longer feel guilty over my lack of knowledge then, but I know now, she should of had all her meds removed.

There has been an answer to our prayers, but I do not want to talk about it yet. It is still a working situation that is not resolved as of yet.

Yes there is good news. I will report on it as I am able, kind of busy now.

Thats good Gabe demential isnt a forever thing. My mom had it due to using two different medications that reacted against each other and went along for 5 years without another sign of it.

I had to get back in here and apologize to you Gabe I don't mean to put any fear into you over what anyone might try and step in to do. I was my mothers guardian and because I worked and had my own family they didn't think I was qualified to handle her.

Your mother will be fine and God will help you through this.

All of us will continue to pray for her and you. I think just the fact she found her way home again was a very good sign

mn, I value your experience with your Mom, and your words are valuable because you have been through it. I have already prayed and decided to never again try to stop my Mom from doing anything she wants to do no matter how crazy it sounds? I have to place my Mom in god's hands and not in mine, so if she decides to leave and drive anywhere I will not say a word against it, but will trust in God to protect her.

As far as you placing fear toward me, please do not be concerned, as fear is ugly and i resist it always.

I am no longer concerned as I was before about my Mom's safety because I was trying to protect her from herself, now I have given it to God, and I will not resist her actions no matter how crazy I think they may be.

If she decides to leave and go out in her car I will only pray that she is safe and for her return, otherwise this situation would drive me nuts as well, so I must take myself out of the picture so to speak, so she becomes God's responsibility and not mine.

This is an act of faith as I understand it and so I have committed to that path.

My Mom as well as me are in God's hands, so I must respect that and let go of my Mom.

Just getting back home here and i have read your mom is back Gabe this is good i will send my prayers and thoughts to both of you in an attempt to ease both of your suffering`s

Gabe, I love you as a friend and brother., so please take what I say as from
the heart.
I don't know what age your mother is ., and it doesn't really matter, what matters
is the fact that she has lost all rationality and has become a danger to herself,
and maybe others. It is now your responsibility to become a guardian for her
wellbeing., the same as you would for a child. It is irresponsible if you do not
restrict her movements if you think she may harm herself or others.
To place her in the hands of God is all very well..., but has God not put you in her
life at this time to care for her in a loving responsible way, the same as a father
would care for his child. Would any father let his child drive a car knowing the child
is incapable.?
Your mother was responsible for your wellbeing when it was necessary.
It is now your duty to do the same., it may be a tough decision, but she is now
incapable of making rational decisions for herself, therefore you must become
the parent.
That is the loving thing to do!
