welll another day of beauty....how can you not be happy out planting stuff..
planted peas today as well as some spinach and some lettuce
here's the pea pics..i only plant peas so i can go out and pick em and eat em..just standing there grazing...so i don't plant tons of em
if you want to can or freeze them just read the info on the pack..it will tell you all the facts you will need and what type will be better to can or to freeze..different varities do make a difference
these are super sugar snaps..no peeling..just eat the whole thing..yummmmmmmm
they can go in early cause they like it cool..the ground is warm enough for them to germinate now and they are forecasting the next week in the 60's to high 70's....
if it was forecast for cold and rain i would wait a bit longer
these are last years seeds..cause i only used half the pack..you can plant peas spring and fall..they like it a bit cooler
this morning i put the peas to soak in some water..this is after about 6 hours
first i pulled out some pennyroyal mint i had there and then used the small rototiller on it
i have 18 inches from my wire fence (which is just some woven wire on some skinny poles) to the stone wall
but the dirt is good dirt with lots of compost mixed in
peas and most seeds are light germinating..which means you don't want to put them too deep...so
i made my row about 4 inches from the fence....and maybe an inch deep
when i plant bulbs and not sure of the space..i just lay them in the trench and cover them last
that way i can move them closer or further apart if i have too..
then a light covering of soil..i just pull it over lightly with my finger hoe
and water lightly...
mostly you should plant in the evening rather than morning..the seeds or bulbs have overnight to get comfy
without being heated or cooked by the sun
whoa..that shot will make you dizzy..sorry..i was trying to get the whole row in
the package will tell you to plant a bit further apart..but i have good soil so i plant a bit closer
if you plant them too tight you can pull every other one out and eat it as greens
i don't..i'ld rather have peas
this is only an overview..your soil type and the variety of peas will dictate what you do..also
your experience
i prefer to have my peas grow up something and have tried many diffenert things...
i am liking this fence set up right now..both for where it is and easy of pickin
you really don't need a lot of space...and i will probably plant something in front of them
something short ..that way i can stand on the wall and pick
on the other side of the fence i will plant beans later on
hope this helps someone try peas...
